Singapore wants to teach the world how to live

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Incredible as it may seem, Singapore is so proud of it's philosophy, it wants the rest of the world to be like them. Singapore state controlled newspaper the Straits Times of April 1, 2012 has this story "S'poreans can offer the world 'uniquely S'pore' values: Lim Swee Say".

http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_784141.html

Lim a Lee Kuan Yew handpicked minion while addressing a brainwashed one track minded Singaporean student gathering in the island says "Singaporeans should offer a mindset and values which are 'uniquely Singapore', as that is 'our biggest strength'.
'We learn from the best of the West, we learn the best of the East, we put them together (using an) eclectic approach, and adapt it,'.

One should not hope ill on others but Lim, if he really meant what he said, is not a very nice human being for wishing others harm, unless of course, he himself is unaware of the extent to which his Singapore has degraded.

I understand Lim who is a either a Minister in the Labor Department or some other ministry, it does not matter which, seems to have no concern for the interests of the workers whom he should be protecting. Indeed it is pretty hard for his workers, and it has been so for decades. For one, workers are required to fend for themselves, as there is no minimum wage, and employers are allowed to hire and fire anytime they want and pay anything they want, a situation more akin to the darkest corners of Africa than a supposedly developed country.

Which is why I suppose those very workers are taking their own lives at record levels by jumping off the readily available high rise apartments without parachutes.

Singapore is one country governed through fear. An island where you can be arrested and sued for defamation even for peaceful protest or the slightest criticism and where everyone goes around like a zombie doing as they are told without question, because they are all afraid of the Lee ruling family. That is of course in the case of those still remaining in the island.

Those with any thinking ability or even the slightest self respect, have all fled it's shores and are now living in Australia and the West. You have an island where the courts are tools of the government to punish the opposition, a country where the newspapers are all state controlled, and day in and day out, you are dished out truckloads of propaganda. Until so much so that the people have got so fed up and left the island permanently or have completely shut themselves off from the drivel that this man and men like him spew.

Today there is an unbridgeable and permanent divide between men such as this and the people of Singapore. For one, this person, like his fellow opportunists at the top are all in power not because the people of Singapore voted him in but because in the most part there were no one else to stand against him either because they were all too scared of being sued by his master Lee or because they had all cleared out of Lee Kuan Yew's Stalinist island state.

Lim can continue saying whatever he wants which would be dutifully published in the island's state controlled press but the people too on their part can completely ignore this nonsense as well.

He says he wants to combine Chinese and Western style thinking which he claims is what Singapore is. I shudder to to thin what the Chinese style thinking is; Ming Dynasty water torture for detractors perhaps!

Well for anyone who loves being human and free, China has nothing to offer. It is like saying we should turn to the Nazis on how to treat Jews nicely! It is a place that sends Liu Xiabo, Nobel prize winner to jail for 11 years all because he wrote that freedom is a good thing for his country. Sorry but that is not I or any other free man wants to be. And neither does anyone want a Singapore style Lee Kuan Yew dictatorship either.

Lim can continue talking all the nonsense he wants which I am sure he will continue to do. After all he has the state controlled Straits Times to print anything he orders.

Singapore. Demanding blind obedience and expecting creative thinking is impossible

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Singapore's Lee ruling family's idea of a good citizen must be crystal clear to everyone. A good citizen in Lee Kuan Yew's book has always been someone who studied hard and passed exams.

Someone who accepted the Lee ruling family as their rightful rulers in perpetuity. Someone who publicly repeated the government mantra that Singapore is incapable or unsuitable for democracy.

Someone who blended with the others and just went along the government line. In other words someone who doesn't think about how life is or should be alternative to the ideas of Lee ruling family.

But in this day and age, for any nation to succeed you need a thinking society. This is the age of information and knowledge. An age of ideas. Countries, especially small tiny ones like Singapore need men like Steve Jobs. Not a bunch of yes men. A people who can think outside the box. Not in unison but independent of each other. People with independent heads with independent brains in them.

Especially for a small tiny island with a small tiny population like Singapore, it's people are it's main asset, an island without any natural resources. Unfortunately for Singapore, precisely because the Lee ruling family were more interested in preserving their own power rather than the interests of the island, they deliberately went about destroying and punishing anyone who did not think the way they wanted.

Take myself Gopalan Nair as an example. I was born in Singapore and received an excellent education in England. I am a lawyer by training. I wanted to do my bit for Singapore. I admired men such as Gandhi and Martin Luther King Junior. In Singapore I admired JB Jeyaretnam. My education came in handy. I felt Singapore is a dictatorship, not a democracy. I felt a free and independent people are essential for progress.

To change things, I joined the opposition Workers Party in 1984. I openly proclaimed the evil of dictatorships. I protested the censoring of the the newspapers. I agitated for free speech and expression. I was known particularly as someone opposing the Lee Kuan Yew dictatorship and his denial of people's freedoms.

If the Lee ruling family had the interests of Singapore, they would have appreciated my active participation in matters affecting the society and should have encouraged me. I am not a criminal. I am not a person of bad morality. I was an educated person who could have contributed to Singapore's well being as well as to my profession as a Singaporean lawyer.

Instead I was hounded from the first day they found out my intentions. I was repeatedly charged and prosecuted under both criminal and lawyer disciplinary proceedings. I was found in contempt of court and suspended from practicing law for 2years in 1991. Lee's intention was to silence men such as myself so that I will submit quietly to his rule without complaint never mind what I thought; like everyone else.

But sadly for the Lee ruling family, they cannot achieve their intention of making me a criminal. In spite of all these criminal and Singapore Law Society ethics punishments imposed, not a single Singaporean or any foreigner thinks any worse of me. It is quite clear both in Singapore and abroad that their kangaroo courts are a tool to silence critics and these punishments are just simply nonsense.

Many others in my position have quietly submitted and kept quiet. Their independent minds and spirits destroyed, they became like the others, submissive and intimidated souls who went about their work and stopped thinking of these things anymore. Their spirits were dampened and then completely destroyed. They became like their fellow Singaporeans, just another robot.

Many like me who felt a distaste living such cowardly submissive lives, like sheep simply left the country. By and large they have simply disappeared in their new lives and forgotten Singapore altogether. There are a few like me who despite having left continue to openly criticize this government from abroad to weaken their grip over their people.

Today Singapore is by and large populated with a people either ignorant of their rights, through a lack of education or understanding or those who do not hold much respect for themselves and are willing to live lives pleasing the Lee Kuan Yew government.

Either way you look at it, the Lee ruling family has destroyed independent thinking among Singaporeans. Unfortunately in this day and age, it is precisely this quality that the island needs to achieve any success, which Lee has completely and permanently destroyed, a state which cannot be rehabilitated any longer. The damage to their minds is permanent.

The Lees have simply got their knickers in a twist. Today they realize that for the island to grow and remain successful you have to have independent and self respecting individuals.

If indeed they wanted to undo the harm they had done, they have now to openly admit that their actions against me were wrong. That their actions against the late JB Jeyaretnam were wrong. They have to admit that Chee Soon Juan did no wrong. And to admit that Singapore Judge Belinda Ang Saw Ean was indeed corrupt and misused the law to punish Chee in order to please her master Lee.

They have to free the press, allow peaceful demonstrations as mandated by the Constitution and admit that Alan Shadrake was indeed right in his book Once a Jolly Hangman because the law is indeed misused to hang ordinary drug mules but to allow well connected elites to escape. They have to admit there is no rule of law.

But unfortunately for them this is simply too much to ask. If Lee were to do all this he would be overthrown the next minute. On the other hand if he were not to do this, Singapore will continue on it's decline with talented people continuing to leave it's shores because this island is simply nonsense.

This is like a Catch 22 situation, a Hobson's choice. Either Singapore is damned or the Lee family is damned. They have managed to drive the country to this hopelessness.

Singapore, not a country one can be proud to call home

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Englishmen can be proud of their country. Proud of their great traditions of rule of law, freedom of speech, expression and human rights. So can the Americans, the Frenchmen and all the free peoples of the world. One is always judged by the country he belongs. And to say I am an Englishman is a proud thing indeed.

In the case of Singapore, it is difficult for anyone to say he is proud of his country. True there are skyscrapers and modern roads. But other than these concrete structures, what is Singapore.

It is a place where one man, Lee Kuan Yew has been running it as if it was his own personal possession since 1959. He has outlawed freedom of speech and expression, he has outlawed chewing gum, he has taken over the newspapers and Media and replaced it with propaganda, he practices racial discrimination against his Malay and Indian citizens, he has taken over the law courts and used it to crush his opponents. He has turned it into a dictatorship.

He has placed his son as the Prime Minister who continues the dictatorship while he watches. Corrupt shameless sycophants and opportunists, loyal to him for the millions they receive, are used to arrest and punish his critics. He basically runs the island on propaganda through his state controlled media to proclaim imaginary achievements to hoodwink locals and foreigners alike into thinking it is a great nation.

He allows foreign businessmen and labor to come in and take the jobs from the locals and unfairly compete with local businesses to increase the GDP. He gives scholarships to foreigners to study in local schools while denying locals the same benefit. He makes locals serve national service for 2 years and bind them to another 10 years of compulsory reserve duties thereby obstructing them from leaving Singapore. Foreigners in Singapore not only have the businesses but the jobs too since foreign companies generally do not employ locals.

You hear of great sporting achievements but which are all false. The newspapers keep repeating stories of Singapore table tennis players having won world champions, when in truth they are not Singaporeans at all but citizens of Communist China. They are paid millions to represent Singapore at the games. Once they got their money and won the medals, they usually go straight back to China after throwing the medals at Singaporeans faces. There are no Singaporean sportsmen. They are all purchased from Communist China.

Singapore always pays Chinese sportsmen from Communist China to represent them instead of say, African sportsmen. They do this for a disgraceful reason entirely to hoodwink foreigners, since they would not know that these sportsmen are not Singaporeans at all since they both look alike (Singapore Chinese are also Chinese), whereas they would instantly know that an African looking Kenyan running the mile at record time is not a Singaporean.

Recently there was a claim that a Singapore sailboat "Uniquely Singapore" was sailing around the world. In actual fact except for 2 Singapore passengers, the skipper and the entire crew were foreigners, I believe English and Australian. Singaporeans are incapable of any great sailing achievement.

Then there was a claim that some Singaporean women were going to climb Everest. Except for that piece of news, we were never told whether they did in fact climb or was it another hoax.

You can see that Singapore newspapers are a total fraud. It is covered daily with insignificant nonsense such as someone who wants to sell his dog for a million dollars and a midwife who makes a lot of money presumably because she has government connections. Besides this trivia, you have daily lectures and unsolicited advice from their Lee Kuan Yew handpicked ministers that we should be more polite, we should be more courteous, we should wash our hands more often and we should unite instead of divide. In other words you are treated worse than a bunch of schoolchildren.

As for the Lee ruling family and their handpicked government, they do whatever they want. Firstly they pay themselves literally millions of dollars in salaries which is nothing but corruption. But if you were to protest this, they sue you using their corrupt judges.

The elections are a joke because the media only gives scant skewed coverage to the opposition. Anyone openly connected to the opposition and seen to be disloyal to the Lee ruling family are subject to dismissals from jobs and denied promotion while compliance and obedience always result in opportunities and advancement.

Except for a handful of people, the entire population of the island have been turned literally into sheep merely complying with whatever the Lee ruling family decides because confronting them means trouble from many directions. The entire island has been turned into a yes-man society, the only safe way to live.

The few handful of critics who have stood up against them in the interests of Singapore have all been branded criminals and punished, such as the late JB Jeyaretnam and today's Chee Soon Juan. Since 1984 I too was repeatedly persecuted through lawyer disciplinary proceedings (I was a lawyer in Singapore and am one today in California), suffered suspension from practice in Singapore, repeatedly charged with contempt of court and jailed and recently disbarred from practicing law in Singapore. According to Lee Kuan Yew and his friends and family, I too am a criminal for not having the good sense to support and praise him.

This subvertion of the entire island for Lee's personal benefit and reducing it to an island dictatorship run by a bunch of thugs lead by Lee Kuan Yew results today in their suffering punishing setbacks. For one, increasing numbers of citizens are leaving their shores forcing them to bring in large numbers of immigrants from Communist China. Lawyers are leaving the profession en masse. Today there are no more than 3,000 lawyers for a population of 5 million. Similarly all other professional classes are also leaving. Rate of childbirth is almost non existent. Young people are refusing to marry and the older people who are mostly native born are dying off in large numbers.

Singapore a place where you simply cannot live as a free man because you are always required to submit to the Lee ruling family and their corrupt minions, where you are fed daily with a whole load of propaganda from the state controlled press, and where foreigners have a better deal than local natives, and where you are arrested sued and persecuted if you complained. Surely such a place cannot be one that anyone with any pride can be proud of.

More junk news in Singapore's junk newspapers

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Yesterday I had written about the nonsense that is dished out by Singapore state controlled newspaper, the Straits Times. Here is today's dose of junk, Sunday Times March 25, 2012

"Restaurant ban to ease traffic at Serangoon Garden" http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_781481.html.
It says no more restaurants will be allowed in Serangoon Gardens because there are too many already. It seems to me rather trivial to make it into Singapore's leading newspaper. Aren't there anything else more important?

"WWII Japanese soldier bursts in... to teach history" http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_781491.html.
In this case a history school teacher had decided to dress as a WW2 Japanese soldier to give added effect in class. Good for him. But why should this be headline news in Straits Times?

"Stop and stare: Quirky sculptures in neighbourhoods here" http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_781490.html
The paper reports of some housing estates putting up sculptures of Roman soldier on a horse! It doesn't interest me at all.

"Shortage of confinement nannies in Year of the Dragon" http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_781495.html
It appears someone named Yong Bai Ying who is 56 is making a lot of money as a midwife/nurse! Perhaps she has the Lee ruling family connections!

"Time for Singapore to work together: George Yeo" http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_781489.html
George Yeo, the defeated Lee ruling family's politician of choice for Aljunied says that Singaporeans are divided because only 60% voted for his master's political party. This he says is bad. Therefore he says Singapore should no longer be divided but united. I suppose what he means is that if 90% voted for the PAP, this would be a good thing because they would now be united! I don't see the reasoning, do you?

"Singapore's top chefs crowned" http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_781496.html
A certain chef Andre Chiang of a posh Bukit Timah Restaurant and another foreigner at Swisshotel have been awarded medals for cooking. Most Singaporeans of modest means would have never even entered either of these places for a meal which may cost their entire month's earnings. In any case why should this be important to an ordinary Singaporean anyway, something which doesn't concern him in the least? Another example of the elite writing for the elite, never mind the man in the 2 room rented Toa Payoh HDB flat.

The Straits Times, Singapore's premium main newspaper only carries this sort of nonsense day in and day out. There is nothing of any importance of national affairs, expected of a sophisticated society, which we know it is not.

There is no discussion on the issue of millions of taxpayers money paid to the Lee ruling family members and their friends at the top. Nothing about the question of ever increasing numbers leaving for settlement abroad. No discussion about the issue of the blatant violation of a free press, free speech and expression and the lack of the rule of law. No discussion whatsoever on the corruption of Singapore judges such as Belinda Ang Saw Ean who shamelessly abuses the law to please the Lee ruling family.

Has foreign investment declined lately? We would never know would we.

In fact compared to any newspaper in England, Australia or the US, even a provincial one, Singapore's is totally backward. In fact it is nothing more than a company's newsletter.

Frankly Singaporeans should realise that the Lee ruling family is simply keeping them in the dark. Since there has been no complaint whatsoever from the island's inhabitants, it would appear that they are not concerned one way or another what goes on in Lee Kuan Yew's island. To use Singapore jargon, they have switched off, and I suppose left the island entirely.

Singapore's junk news in their junk newspapers

Ladies and Gentlemen,

State controlled newspapers in one party dictatorships, like Singapore have a hard time printing real news, and instead comes up with triviality and nonsense, no self respecting country would publish. Take today's Straits Times March 23, 2012 for instance. This is some of the nonsense they have in just one day.

Secondary school teacher by day, MMA fighter by night, http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_781177.html. This is a story of some Singapore school teacher who is an martial arts exponent by night. In any other place they would have said, so what?

Singapore expecting 10% more tourists this year, http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_781176.html
So is every other place in the world, UK expects 20% more, India expects 40% more and so on. What is the big deal? Why write this nonsense? Why is this important?

$45,000 for this Tibetan mastiff - any takers? http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_781205.html
Somebody in Singapore wants to sell a dog for $45,000.00. Why not sell it for $100,000.00? And why is this headline news? Is this a major newspaper or trivia time?

DPM Teo joins 1,000 walkers at Lorong Halus for 1km walk http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_781231.html, Why should Lee Kuan Yew minion, DPM Teo walking or running be of interest to anyone, let alone making headlines news in a major newspaper?

F-15SG jets make first appearance in S'pore-Thailand-US exercise http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_781236.html. It talks of a Singapore military plane flying with a US and Thai planes in military exercises. Every country holds military exercises. Australia does not put it up as headline news whenever they hold military exercises. This is nonsense.

3 key factors for active ageing identified , http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_781232.html.
This says according to the National University of Singapore, good health for old people requires exercise, having friends and having money. Thanks. As if I did not know!

I can go on but this is the nonsense you get every day in and day out from these state controlled newspapers and what is even worse is the fact that Singapore's Lee ruling family compels you to read this nonsense and you have no choice because independent newspapers are prohibited in his island!

Any surprise why educated Singaporeans are leaving for Australia and Canada in droves. Having to read this nonsense is reason enough to catch the first flight out. Having to read this is worse than pulling teeth.

Singapore's Alice in Wonderland elections

Ladies and Gentlemen,

In one sentence, the Lee ruling family's Singapore has a nonsensical, unrepresentative and illegal electoral system. Even Lewis Carrol of Alice in Wonderland could not have done a better job.

Racial Discrimination in Housing: 90% of Singaporeans live in HDB (Housing and Development Board) apartments, the high rise buildings you see all over Singapore. These apartments which are wholly owned by the government are all let to citizens as leasehold, mostly on 99 year leases and some month to month. If not for these apartments, Singaporeans would have nowhere to live.

Although the Constitution requires equality between the races, a blatant form of segregation and apartheid, not dissimilar to the former South Africa is practiced by the HDB.

In South Africa, blacks were not allowed to alive anywhere in their country but confined to townships like the notorious Soweto (South West Township).

Similarly in Singapore the Malays and the Tamils who form the minority, are not allowed to alive anywhere in these government apartments. They are only allowed to reside in designated areas in the island which did not have Malay and Tamil populations beyond a certain ratio.

The Singapore government requires Tamils and Malays to be thinly spread out among the Chinese population, which has 78% of the total population of Singapore presumably because the Lee ruling family who are of Chinese descent fear the election of more Malays or Indians from the opposition if they are allowed to concentrate in any one or more areas.

Racial Discrimination in Population Size: The Constitution requires racial equality under the law. But the Lee ruling family, being Chinese themselves have decided that only their Chinese race would forever form the majority in Singapore.

To ensure this illegal racial majority ratio, they plucked out a number from thin air, 75%. Today ethnic Chinese race in Singapore must not be allowed to fall below 75% while the Malays and Indians are allowed to have not more than 25% of the population.

In the past decade, as the Chinese ethnic race began to exhibit falling birth rates while that of Malays and Indians was higher, Lee's ruling family had vigorously embarked on a sustained effort to bring into Singapore for settlement either Chinese from China or anyone who resembles the Chinese like the Burmese, in disproportionally large numbers.

Today plane loads of Chinese from Communist China are flown in daily to keep the numbers of Chinese at least 75%. This policy is clearly illegal being a crass and shameless violation of the Constitution of the island.

Malay and Indian Members of Parliament represent no one: Since Singapore today is still effectively a racially segregated society where the different races have not yet become one united society, where the different races have nothing in common with a each other; no common language, culture or religion, it is inconceivable for any Chinese person to vote for an outsider.

Since the Malay and Indian populations are not only minuscule, but also thinly scattered throughout the island, because of the government's prohibition against them choosing to live in any particular area, had they stood for elections on their own, not a single one would ever have been elected.

So Lee Kuan Yew, the dictator who has engineered the system to ensure his perpetual rule has come up with an idea to use some Indians and Malays of his choice to his advantage.

Since there are some, albeit few Indians and Malays in our mist, clearly an endangered species, it would be politically correct at least to give the impression that they are not neglected. To do this he selects a few of them to enter his government as MPs or even Ministers.

To get them elected, he comes up with the idea of Group Representation Constituency in which not one but several Chinese politicians stand, among which you place one or two Malay or Tamil persons of his choice.

For instance the Tamil, K Shanmugam, Lee's Minister for Law got into parliament at the Nee Soon GRC, which also has Chinese Er Lee Bee Wah, Lim Wee Kiat and Tay Teck Wan. I am not sure exactly how many Chinese live in Nee Soon but we know for a fact that at least 75% of them are Chinese.

Therefore, if this Tamil had stood alone at Nee Soon, he wouldn't have got any votes from the Chinese, and very probably would have lost even his election deposit. No way in the world would he ever have been elected, let alone become Minister.

Yet, even though this Tamil represents in reality no one, let alone the people of Nee Soon, he is permitted not only to walk into Parliament, but what is worse, even lectures and pontificates over us.

He was even found out to be a downright reprobate, an uncontrollable sex maniac and adulterer, for sleeping with nearly all the Chinese women in the law firm Allen and Gledhill while employed there, by taking advantage of his political position, being Lee's Member of Parliament. His Tamil wife divorced him when she found out. It is known that he prefers Chinese women over his own Tamils.

As if that's not all, only a month ago, he sent out a "lawyers letter", Singapore jargon for threatening to sue for defamation, a blogger who wrote that he was again caught committing adultery with another Chinese woman Foo Mee Har, another of Lee's politicians,(Please see my earlier blog post).

With a man like this Singaporeans have not only to bear in silence a man who represents no one, but adulterers and reprobate rascals as well to rule over them.

It is the same with every other Tamil or Malay. Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, this time a half Tamil, a half caste Chinese mix, was elected into Holland Bukit Timah GRC, which has Sim Ann and Liang Eng Hwa, who are Chinese while Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam of the Jurong GRC has with him the following Chinese, Ang Wei Neng, Ong Kin Huat and Zhisheng. You can bet every penny that if there weren't these Chinese, Shanmugaratnam wouldn't be anywhere near Lee's Parliament.

What should arouse outrage and indignation in Singaporeans of Malay and Indian descent is the blatant disregard of the law through racial segregation in housing and the consequent unfairness in parliamentary elections but also the deliberate increase of the Chinese race and ethnicity while suppressing their populations.

As if this is not bad enough we have Members of Parliament who literally represents no one, 9 Nominated Members of Parliament, another of Lee's recent creations which makes nonsense of the Constitution.

These are handpicked men who are given a licence to make speeches which appear to oppose the government but in reality they are not. Somewhat like play acting and theatre. The whole idea is to give the international public the impression that Singapore is a democracy since the island has been increasingly criticized as an intolerant one party Stalinist dictatorship, which it is.

For example, these Members may speak one day about the high cost of living or the crowding in the trains or the need for more roads. To this the government would respond by saying that it is all untrue. And since the Lee ruling family are beyond anything and anyone, like Gods, they would all just go home as if nothing had happened.

If all this is not bad enough, people have been forced to vote for the Lee ruling family and their party under threats both explicit and implicit such as defamation lawsuits against opposition politicians and threats to deny employment and benefits to those who voted against them.

All this makes Singapore Lee ruling family and their national elections a joke and them and their handpicked Ministers and Members of Parliament a bunch of jokers.

I am not the only one who knows all this. Which is why Singapore's educated class continue to leave their shores in even greater numbers for settlement away from Lee's Alice in Wonderland while he continues to make do with this riff raff from China who don't speak any English and have nothing much in their heads either.

Singapore's defamation lawsuits, "lawyers letters", brutal canings, hangings of petty criminals and Canadian students simply don't mix

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Singapore state controlled newspaper Straits Times of March 22, 2012 has the story "Expat schools to get more land to attract foreigners to stay".

See http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_780370.html

It talks of Singapore government, with it's extremely land shortage challenge in it's tiny island, "releasing more land for international schools to use, for Singapore to attract foreigners to live and work here".

The Minister for trade Iswaran believes "leasing out land for long term use by international schools will encourage them to take a long term view of their presence here". In this case, a $140 million Canadian International School in Singapore's Jurong West.

There are many things here that does not make sense. First why is the government trying very hard to attract foreigners, in this case Canadians, instead of trying to persuade Singaporeans themselves to remain instead of migrating abroad in the thousands, which they are doing?

And the second question is whether Eswaran knows that Westerners, in this case Canadians are a free people who live in a democracy and they do not like living in places where the head of government (Lee ruling family) routinely sues their opponents though defamation actions, where "lawyers letters" threatening defamation lawsuits are sent to bloggers who criticize, where criminals are brutally beaten with a cane (punishment of caning), and petty criminals are executed by hanging at record levels.

If Eswaran knew Canadians, which appears he does not, they would not be attracted to living in North Korea or Singapore which is not much different.

And by the way, Canada has free and independent newspapers unlike the state controlled Singaporean junk which I have just read containing this article.

From appearances, it would seem Eswaran and his one party government made up of the Lee ruling party appears to have lost it. We had a series of articles in the past in this paper reporting their determined efforts to arrest the seemingly unstoppable flood of native born talented Singaporeans abroad, which I understand has exceeded 1,000 ever year, not including family members.

Up till now all those efforts have failed and the numbers leaving for settlement abroad have instead increased, not declined. Singapore is fast managing to disgorge every single educated Singaporean except for the few willing for serve the dictatorship in the government.

It seems to appear that since they have lost the ability to retain their own people, who by the way know what sort of a country Singapore is from personal knowledge, they are trying to hoodwink the rest of the world into thinking that somehow Singapore is a desirable place to live. Unfortunately for them, the Internet has effectively destroyed their ever succeeding to attract good people from the developed countries to ever settle there.

This is what Singapore is. It is a fear ridden society where the rulers have to be treated as if they were Gods who would inflict serious harm to anyone who doesn't like them, in the form of defamation actions and bankruptcy.

I can tell you this much. No decent red blooded Canadian would be prepared to tolerate Lee Kuan Yew's one party state, with a state controlled press, multi million dollar minsters, a corrupt judiciary, no rule of law, defamation actions, no chewing gum and record level hangings in Singapore's Changi Prison

Eswaran should go to Canada and see for himself. If he already knows what Canada is, then please don't insult the Canadians for even suggesting they live in Singapore. And please don't insult Singaporeans either, because they know Canada better than Eswaran appears to do, which is why they are leaving in hoardes to settle in that very country.

I was born in Singapore and left. Why, because I had openly joined an opposition political party and challenged them; they suspended me from practicing law for 2 years just because I wrote a letter to their now deceased former Attorney General; I was fined $8,000.00 Singapore dollars for making an election rally speech on the manner of appointment of lower court judges; and in 2008 I was imprisoned for 3 months for writing a blog here which they did not like; and even more recently disbarred from practicing law in Singapore altogether.

None of this would have happened had I done these things in Canada. Canada is a proud and free democracy. Singapore is the Lee ruling party's banana republic run by corrupt judges. That is the difference. And that is why any attempt to persuade upstanding Canadians to reside in Lee's island will remain a pipe dream.

A Singapore without any Singaporeans

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today, thanks to the Singapore Lee ruling family's unwavering determination to make Singapore very attractive to foreigners and not so attractive to it's own citizens, it has today almost emptied itself of it's own people and replaced it with foreigners from all corners of the world, especially Communist China. You can compare this to a blood transfusion, emptying the man of this own blood and putting someone else's in it's place.

The Lee ruling family has made not only very simple but also very attractive for businesses from abroad. Almost with no questions asked, foreign businesses can not only establish one there, they can also bring move their entire staff there as well. Naturally this makes foreign businesses very happy which is why the island has repeatedly been honored for it's attractive business climate.

It is also the only country in the world as far as I know where a local business can prefer a foreigner for employment over a local, just like that. It is impossible for a German to walk into California and expect a job instantly but he can do it in Singapore.

Since the Lee family are not accountable to anyone, let alone Singaporeans as some kind of God, they are in effect emptying Singapore of it's own population and replacing it with foreigners doing business there. Native born Singaporeans are either left unemployed, have emigrated or died of old age. The only ones still remaining are the poorly skilled who are unable to emigrate to the West and are left behind.

I think all these accolades given to Singapore as the world's most business friendly city should be taken with a pinch of salt. I think they should ask Singaporeans what they think for a change.

Singapore. Time to get out

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Although Singapore state controlled media is not expected to come out with the bitter truth in the island, let me tell you that it is not looking very good. In fact it has not been looking good for some time now.

You have the low birth rate, the mounting flood of emigration to the West, the high mortality rate of an ageing society, and a general lack of confidence in the island overall. As we speak ever more educated skilled professionals continue to leave only to be replaced by temporary travellers passing through for a short Asian experience. The island has gotten a very bad name with locals, foreigners and foreign newspapers being regularly and repeatedly sued for having said things that the Lee ruling family did not like.

Recently they have resorted to sending "lawyers letters" to bloggers with warnings not to criticize and Singapore itself has become the butt of legal jokes because of the very delicate nerves of the Lee family.

These are the signs that manifest a general decline in confidence in Singapore continuing the way it is after Lee Kuan Yew's demise which has to happen sooner than later given he is 89 or 90 years old. His son whom he has placed as Prime Minister is widely believed to be unable to hold the fort and with him gone, there is expected to be general anarchy and a free for all which will not stabilize.

The entire ruling government is made up not of a single leader but of handpicked bureaucrats selected for having passed exams in school and their willingness to abandon their conscience and serve the dictatorship for huge salaries. It is quite clear that were it not for these mind boggling salaries and perks, not a single one of them would have ever stepped forward.

With a total lack of leadership and everyone playing their roles for monetary gain, Singapore is doomed the moment the dictator dies.

Therefore my advice given the state of health and old age of Lee Kuan Yew, to Singaporeans and foreigners is this. If you can leave, leave now before it is too late. Otherwise, the moment Lee dies, your money would be worthless and you would have lost everything because there will panic and disorder in the island. With a tiny population in a tiny overcrowded island, it will not overcome the disaster. As you can see, the signs of abandoning a sinking ship are already apparent. People who can see the writing on the wall are already leaving in even greater numbers.

And not to forget repeated flooding after almost every thunderstorm caused by rising sea levels and global warming. It will not get better, only worse. In a tiny island there will be no space left. And the Lee ruling family has no answers for this.

Leave now if you can before it is too late. Don't be left behind in a failed state.

Lee Kuan Yew's impending death drives Singapore professionals to leave

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Singapore strongman Lee Kuan Yew who has run his island since 1959 is either 89 or 90years old. Since no one can live forever, naturally Singaporeans fear the consequences of his death since everything that matters even remotely is because of him. I had earlier written a hoax in this blog some time ago claiming his having had a serious heart attack to test it's consequences, which confirmed what I and I suppose most people thought. The island went into a state of near panic with the stock market falling and the Prime Minister's office putting out a statement that he was well.

One thing is certain from the circumstances of Singapore ruled by one family, the Lee ruling family, just as is the case with dictatorships everywhere else. When the dictator dies, the country goes into chaos, which I think most observers of Singapore would agree.

Which explains this latest report from Singapore’s state controlled newspaper the Straits Times of March 20, 2012 which has the story "Singapore professionals keen to relocate: Poll".

http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_779514.html

In this report, it claims MRI China Group had carried out a survey in both Hong Kong and Singapore of professionals emigration patterns. It says although Hong Kong "may be crowded and chaotic", their professionals are "fairly happy to stay on" and only 29.4% of professionals wanted to emigrate. In Singapore on the other hand, of 325 professionals surveyed 44.2% wanted to leave.

One of the main reasons why Singaporean professionals want to leave, I believe, is the uncertainly of what Singapore will become after the impending demise of Singapore strongman Lee Kuan Yew. A scenario of a crashed stock market, massive outflow of capital and foreign investment, a run on the banks and people fleeing the island with everything they have, comes to mind.

Best to leave now while the Singapore dollar has any value left. I would do the same had I been a Singaporean professional living in Singapore now.

Singapore's Big Bother is watching you

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am not sure if you have been following the latest from Singapore’s state controlled newspapers but some of their recent reports are bizarre, to say the least. For instance two days ago, Singapore strongman's former multi million dollar president (by the way they all get paid multi million dollars) SR Nathan gave a speech where he lamented the island's lack of a common identity and he has sworn to create one.

Two weeks ago, Singapore’s Minister for Education pointed out that Singapore students should have good character such as integrity, and he has started on a project to do this.

But anyone who actually knows Singapore would have realized that these are impossible tasks in a one party state where conformism is required to live a normal life, let alone succeeding.

This is what it is. It is generally accepted in that island that Lee Kuan Yew and by extension all his family members, in other words the Lee ruling family, are the creators of Singapore and without them Singapore would have been nothing more than a backward fly infested fishing village.

Singaporeans are expected to believe that it was they who single handedly brought Singapore to what it is today, an island with gleaming skyscrapers skirting the waterfront. Every single Singaporean is expected to owe his entire existence to this great family who have spent their entire lives selflessly struggling for the welfare of the people without an iota of self interest.

In fact they want you to believe that since Jesus Christ, Mahatma Gandhi or Mother Theresa, there has been noone comparable to this distinguished family.

They require you to believe, the Lee ruling family, especially Lee Kuan Yew himself, is the sole repository of all the word's knowledge, having scored a double first at the esteemed Cambridge University and everything he has done so far and will ever do until our Good Lord takes him will be the best thing that ever happened or will ever happen to the very lucky Singaporeans who have been blessed with a man like him.

As for anyone who criticizes his paying himself millions of dollars for himself and each of his family members, they are entitled to every penny of it, because they are such great and smart people while any criticism of corruption against them is totally and absolutely misguided. This is what they want Singaporeans to believe.

Lee our great leader knew that newspapers should not be free and should be state controlled in a small city state like Singapore, which is why he did it. Also he realized that peaceful protests, freedom of speech and expression and such rowdy and unacceptable behavior are a sign of the decadent West and should be avoided at all costs, which is why he arrests anyone who dares to criticize or hold any peaceful protests. Since there is no way he could be wrong, anyone who criticizes him should be sued and bankrupted which explains why today Chee Soon Juan has been adjudicated a bankrupt and so was the earlier troublemaker, the late JB Jeyaretnam. This is what Singaporeans in Lee’s Singapore should believe.

Also according to them, Singapore judges are the best in the world and it's justice is admired and respected universally and judges like Belinda Ang Saw Ean are unparalleled for her integrity honesty and wisdom which is why Gopalan Nair the thoroughly ingrate deserves being sent to jail for 3 months in 2008 for doing such a despicable act at to criticize her, someone who could do no wrong, as good as God or even as good as Lee Kuan Yew himself.

The problem is this. In order to live a peaceful life in that one party city state, let alone succeeding, one has to accept everything that has been said above as true; and if you wanted to go far, openly proclaim this to be true, if not life can be very troublesome because Big Brother is constantly watching.

As for myself, it is impossible for me to accept any of this nonsense. I do not believe one bit that Lee Kuan Yew or any of his extended Lee ruling family is either necessary or even advantageous for the small island nation. Indeed I believe that this fellow is nothing but a small time thug who goes around punishing his detractors because he has the benefit of a compliant police force and a corrupt judiciary who prop him up because of the bribes and kickbacks they receive in the millions.

I do not believe that having a state controlled press is a good thing, nor having a state controlled judiciary nor the denial of the rule of law as being desirous in any way.

I believe that giving the people the right to be free, to be free to think and to act as long as they comply with a set of lawfully elected laws which Singapore does not have because these laws that deny free speech and expression are illegal and an affront to humanity and should be disobeyed.

Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore today inhibits freedom of thought or expression, denies the free expression of ideas and requires one to conform in order to live a peaceful life. This is bad not only for it's people, it is bad also for Singapore.

And the deleterious effects of such a controlled society is apparent daily. Thousands of educated people continue to leave for settlement abroad. People simply refuse to have children and the native born are simply dying off from old age. To replace the ones who left or died, the Lee ruling family bring in mindless and brainless third rate Chinese immigrants from mainland China who fit in very well with the Lee ruling family's idea of good citizenship. But these mindless brainless characters do not advance Singapore one bit.

I am not a man who would use strong words but sometimes one cannot just help it. I want to tell this small time bully, Lee and his family, in the small island city state of Singapore that he can take his harebrained ideas and shove it up you know where. He is simply an old fool who does not realize that in this day and age, you simply cannot ask some to dance because they simply won't.

And I want to wish him and his minions who run around him such as the former president of Singapore SR Nathan and the present Minister for Education, both millionaires several times over and both of whom I believe would swear upon their mother’s graves that the Lee family is God’s gift to Singapore, good luck in creating a population with an independent character and a Singaporean identity, whatever that may be.

I am sorry but this is not the type of character or identity that I would want to wish on myself or anyone else, million dollars or none at all.

Of course, in the Singaporean meaning of things, I just as Chee Soon Juan and the former JB Jeyaretnam are criminals and miscreants of the worst kind, who deserve to be locked up and the key thrown away.

Singapore's betrayal of non Chinese citizens, ethnic cleansing

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Singapore today has about 78% people of Chinese descent, about 13% Malays and another 8% Indians. This is not a figure that came about naturally but deliberately created by the government's preference of people of Chinese descent over their other citizens, Malay and Indian.

The original inhabitants of Singapore island since the beginning of time were Malays as was in Malaya and Indonesia, known as the Malay archipelago. When the British arrived in 1819, they brought in Chinese from Southern China to work in business and commerce and Indians in Malay's rubber plantations and construction.

With Singapore's prosperity as a business center and a sea port, the population of each race increased with the Chinese increasing at a slightly faster rate. Nevertheless in the 1950s the population ratio of Indians and Malays were far greater than what it is today.

Instead of the island's racial balance being allowed to progress naturally, for the last 4 decades or so, the Lee ruling family who were effectively running a one party dictatorship, as they are doing now, began deliberately suppressing the populations of Muslim Malays and Indians while actively and deliberately increasing that of the Chinese population.

The Chinese Singapore population has over the last 3 decades or so, been suffering from the lowest birth rate among the races, while the Malays had the highest followed by the Indians. Had matters been left to nature, Singapore would have had far more Malays than there are today, relatively speaking.

There is no doubt that Lee Kuan Yew family, who are ethnic Chinese, who continues to run Singapore since 1959 is openly and unashamedly racist who are prepared to do anything necessary however illegal to change Singapore into a complete and absolute Chinese city by importing disproportionally large numbers of ethnic Chinese from China to literally flood the island while at the same time placing a total ban on Malay immigrants and allowing only a trickle of Indians.

This is because the Malays have never really supported him and neither did the Indians who would have preferred a multi racial island with English language and Western style democracy which the Lee ruling family feels would be a threat to their continued dictatorial rule. They have never been admirers of democracy.

Today immigrants from China who have no knowledge of English or any skills whatsoever are permitted to immigrate purely to increase their numbers in the island to make sure that Singapore will be Lee Kuan Yew's Chinese city, not a multi racial city as the British and it's original population had hoped when they colonized Singapore.

It has to be said that transforming Singapore into a Chinese city by deliberately increasing the number of Chinese immigrants is a blatant violation of the Singapore Constitution which clearly mandates equality between the races. This is ethnic cleansing shamelessly conducted by the Lee ruling party to deliberately destroy the Malay and Indian populations in the island. In Bosnia they shot their Muslim neighbours. In Singapore they do it by importing foreign Chinese. This is ethnic cleansing, no less. The only difference is the manner in which it is done.

The government has said on many occasions in the past that they are determined to keep the population ratio as 75% Chinese 15% Malay and the balance Indian, even though nowhere in the Constitution is this ratio required or even allowed.

If indeed all races are to be treated equally under the law, this deliberate overwhelmingly large importation of Chinese immigrants is a clear violation of the Constitution.

Up till now, Singapore's Malay leaders such as the Singapore Democratic Party's Jufri Mehmood is clearly unhappy with this policy of racial discrimination against his people but have not been prepared to openly speak on this for fear of being branded Malay chauvinists or even worse being arrested under the Internal Security Act falsely accused of inciting racial unrest. As for the Indian leaders they have been so much intimidated into submission that no one single Indian leader can be identified or willing to be counted.

As we speak Singapore's Changi airport continues to ship in plane loads each day of these Chinese from Communist China thereby continuing to transform the island into a complete Chinese city.

Today, with Lee ruling family's great success in this illegal racial policy, original native born Indians have become almost non existent. Many of them have married Chinese women particularly to advance their careers in Lee's Chinese Singapore, where you have an alarming increase in their off spring with Indians names but who look completely Chinese. Most of them are unable to speak their native Indian language and for all intends and purposes are not Indians.

In addition, they are emigrating to the West at a much faster rate feeling a sense of abandonment by their own country and a realization that they have no prospects in the Lee ruling family's new Chinese Singapore.

Unless the Malays and Indians stand up against this deliberate and continual ethnic cleansing leading to their total extinction in their own island, standing by doing nothing will in fact ring the final death knell of their people and race in their Singapore.

A British teacher leaves Singapore in disgust

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I publish below a letter received from a British teacher who leaves her job in signapore in disgust. I have concealed her name and particulars at her request

Dear Mr Nair
I have been an avid follower of your website since my return from
Singapore in 2009. Please allow me to explain.

In ..............., as a newly qualified A Level Lecturer, thanks to the appaling
recession, bullying management and the continual changes in the UK education system, I was desperate to gain any teaching experience. Not fully understanding the political or social situation there, I applied to the Ministry of Education in Singapore.

In ................, my wife and I arrived at the shiny MOE building on North Bouna Vista Drive. I was appointed to a large Junior College, teachng A Level General Paper. Despite all the reassurances, it was apparent from day one that the system stinks.

Here's why:
1)The constant cynicism, regarding anything political, in the
staffroom and classrooms.
2) The mindnumbing bureacracy, which sapped the creativity and
inspiration from new teachers. Better to just conform and play the
'game'.
3) The total shambles of mismanagement...
4) The hypocricy, the racism, the sexism and the utter lies peddled by
PAP activists who entered the college, or members who were also
management.

I could go on, and if you would like further details, I will happily
provide them. Please consider one request. You may use anything I
provide for the website, but please keep my name, the subject and when
I was there secret. I really do fear for my former colleagues, if it
is revealed that I am passing information to you.

Please keep up the good work, Singapore has many wonderful and decent
people, who we still keep in touch with. It needs the same regime
change as seen in the Middle East. The truth wil out.

Yours sincerely
British Teacher

Singapore Minister for Education wants to build "character'' in students. An impossible task.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Singapore state controlled news media Channel News Asia of March 08, 2012 has this surprising story, given the island is run by the Lee ruling family, it's Minister for Education claims that he wants to instill "character" in students, see article "Minister outlines MOE's plans for holistic education"

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/print/1187853/1/.html

Given the fact that anyone with any character in the past have all gone to jail or branded as criminals, I mean men such as the late JB Jeyaretnam, Chee Soon Juan, exiled opposition politician Tang Liang Hong and Chia Tye Poh, it's longest standing political prisoner, one begins to wonder what this man means by "character".

Any objective observer would declare that Singapore's present role models are a bunch of rascals, devoid of even an iota of character by any reckoning. They have no character worth mentioning whatsoever.

Take Singapore's Chief Justice Chan Sek Kiong, someone ordinarily with some integrity, but in Lee's Singapore he is the complete reverse. He is a man who shamelessly abuses his office to further the interests not of the law but that of his boss the Lee ruling family. A complete yes man, no less.

Recall in 1997 his astonishing judgement where he declared Lee Kuan Yew and his friends innocent of any wrong doing under the Parliamentary Elections Act for being found within a polling station on voting day when even being found within 200 years of it would have already made them guilty. What he was saying is that Lee Kuan Yew is above the law.

If a man like this is supposed to have character under the Singaporean meaning, no mother who cares for her child should want any part of it.

Then you have role model citizen and lawyer Davinder Singh, Singapore's best civil lawyer, whose principle duty is to sue political opponents for defamation of character whom the Lee ruling family does not like and bankrupt them. This man disgraces himself and his profession. Is this the sort of character the Minister is trying to build?

Then we have the disgraced judge Belinda Ang Saw Ean who awarded damages of several hundreds of thousand dollars against Chee Soon Juan, jailing and bankrupting him through abusing her judicial office to please Lee Kuan Yew. Is this the sort of character he is looking for?

He makes these nonsensical statements in this report which indicates either that he does not know what Singapore is or he deliberately wants to insult our intelligence. He says "education must develop the whole person". True but what type of person have you in mind? Like the sort of the recently deceased Lee Kuan Yew yes man Attorney General Tan Boon Teik?

This statement about Singapore students is funny. He says students have to be able to "discern truths from untruths". What do you call Singapore's state controlled media such as this Channel News Asia? Is it true or propaganda? Should not the student be asking why there is no independent press throughout the island? Or will asking that question result in his being branded as lacking character?

He says developing the "whole child must begin with instilling the right character." But history has shown that in Singapore anyone who has actually shown any character has in fact not been appreciated but punished.

Take my own case in 2008. When I attended the Singapore High Court case of Lee Kuan Yew vs Chee Soon Juan, I found the judge Belinda Ang Saw Ean clearly abusing her office and denying Chee a fair trial. Since speaking out against injustice and dishonest judges such as this woman would ordinarily be the right action, I thought I was behaving honorably with "character" when I wrote that she was indeed a disgrace. Instead of being appreciated for character, I am in fact according to Singapore's Lee ruling family, nothing less than a criminal.

Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore Minister of Education should not be wasting his breath and insulting our intelligence about his project to do the impossible. It is like Hitler's Joseph Goebbels saying that he is going to make the Nazi youth have character. It is an impossible task.

I think Education Minister Heng Swee Keat should be honest at least once and say that "character" that Singapore is looking for is for one to forget one's principles altogether and think of enriching themselves any way they can. In order to do this they should join the Lee ruling family's political party and agree with everything they say regardless of what you personally felt.

If you spend sufficient time doing this, the Lee ruling family may recognize and appreciate your loyalty. And you may become another Ting Pei Ling, the youngest woman (more like a child really) who has recently got into Parliament and landed herself a very profitable career.

This is the Singaporean meaning of character. And this Minister would himself be showing character by not denying it.

Singapore's Lee ruling party's hitman, Attorney General Tan Boon Teik dies.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

There are some in the world who would do any amount of evil, for career and profit. There are degrees of evil inflicted on the innocent. In the worst cases such as that of Adolf Eichmann, Hitler's right hand man to polish off the Jews, it was executing 6million of them in gas chambers. Then we have other forms of harm such as the Singaporean kind.

Singapore state controlled newspaper Straits Times online edition of March 11, 2012 has the story "Former Attorney General Tan Boon Teik dies at 83". He was the Attorney General of Singapore in Lee Kuan Yew's dictatorship from 1967 to 1992, nearly 30 years, during which time, he used his office to systematically arrest and imprison innocent Singaporeans who were targeted by his master Lee Kuan Yew as political threats.

Many law abiding citizens who opposed Lee's government were routinely branded as communists and imprisoned under the Internal Security Act, beaten, tortured, and finally released to society when they were destroyed both in person and spirit. Other methods were suing them for defamation of character using malleable judges or fines and imprisonment through contempt of court cases. Under him, as it is today, the principle use of the law above anything else is to keep the Lee ruling family in power. Rule of law was entirely irrelevant.

His sole purpose was to please Lee Kuan Yew, the Prime Minister and his boss from whom he took his orders. This he did with clockwork efficiency.

His victims were too many to list. In my case, he was responsible for charging me for contempt of court merely because I had suggested at an election rally in 1991 in Bukit Merah Singapore as a Workers party parliamentary candidate that the procedure for appointing Subordinate courts judges should be changed for an impression of fairness. For this I was ordered to pay $8,000 in fines and $13,000.00 in costs. Up till now I have not paid the costs.

Again at this time, he initiated Singapore Law Society disciplinary proceedings against me after which I was suspended for 2 years all for writing a letter asking him to explain his reasons (which made no sense) for refusing the late JB Jeyaretnam a pardon after his exoneration by the English House of Lords.

It was these proceedings which finally made me to leave Singapore permanently because I felt I could do much more for the cause of Singapore's freedom from outside than from within the island.

What damage done to me was only a fraction of others like JB Jeyaretnam who suffered great hardship through his banality of evil.

Unlike Eichmann who was eventually brought to justice, Tan Boon Teik escaped by dying. His name will live in infamy among the annals of those cruel and callous men who profited through the Devil. Singapore's former Attorney General Tan Boon Teik is one such man.

Singapore. Hougang resident, part time cleaner Vellama, Lee's latest victim

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Singapore's state controlled newspaper the Straits Times online edition March 13, 2012 reports "Supreme Court to review Hougang by election application on March 30". It is a surprising story, given the limitations Singaporeans live under the Lee ruling family to read of a case like this.

In an island where even the slightest of criticism, (never mind the fact that the Constitution guarantees freedom of speech, expression and rule of law), will result in lawsuits and even jail, and where it is unheard for anyone to openly challenge the government and get away with it, this case is indeed surprising.

History has shown that such misguided actions (misguided in the Singaporean sense)has invariably led to defamation actions, contempt of court actions where the government always wins, followed by eternal harassment, loss of livelihood and bankruptcy. I am afraid, this is one such case.

Hougang is a constituency in Singapore led up till 2 weeks ago by an opposition politician who had suddenly been dismissed from his party for womanizing. As the seat has become vacant, the government would have to hold a by election under the law.

According to the Straits Times story, Vellama a 42 year old woman who works as a part time cleaner has taken the government to court claiming the "the Prime Minister does not have an unfettered discretion in deciding whether and when to hold the election" and therefore he should do so forthwith, to which the Prime Minister has countered that he will call a a by election but as to when he will do it is entirely up to him.

It would have helped if Madam Vellama had made sure that she has a leg to stand on, but alas, it appears, she is in very thick soup.

Remember we are dealing with Singapore Parliamentary practice, which even though it has nothing to do with English Parliamentary practice, since the former is a one party Stalinist state under the Lee ruling family while the latter is a true democracy; even so, in theory the government will rely on English Parliamentary practice when it suits them and I am afraid devour this poor woman. Singapore legal and parliamentary practice is historically officially based on the English model.

A cursory reading of the Constitution of Singapore does not make any reference to the timing of by elections, neither does Singapore Parliamentary Elections Act either. Falling back on English Parliamentary practice on this point, although in England too there is no statutory requirement for the government to hold the elections within any specific period of time, there are conventions which indicate it should be done within 3 months. (http://australianpolitics.com/uk/parliament/fs54-elections.pdf)

Vellama would not be able to argue under the law that the prime Minister is obliged to do it now. Had she waited for 3 months and then brought suit, although winning such cases in Singapore is impossible, she would at least have less egg on her face.

In Singapore the loser in a civil suit ordinarily pays the winner's costs (unlike the American system where each bears their own costs), and we know it is not cheap, as numerous government critics who have been foolish enough to do it are living proof.

In this case, I am sure Vellama is going to lose but what is worse, if we could go by the recent costs awards in such cases, it is going to be $50,000 if not more, which I am sure she does not have even a fraction, resulting in her being the latest of Lee Kuan yew's bankrupts.

I am afraid she is now in a fix, sort of between the devil and the deep. If she withdraws the case now, she would still be clobbered with intolerable costs; the same thing if she went on with her case.

If Vellama is an activist trying to push Singapore government towards more liberty and freedom through the courts, she should be a millionaire with assets in Switzerland. Being a part time cleaner with a limited income makes this sort of bravado suicidal.

Remember Singapore Lee ruling family is determined to stay in power and their preferred method, Chinese style, "killing a chicken and frightening the monkeys".

This now is another opportunity for them to make it clear to each and everyone that it is simply dangerous to go around challenging them in this manner. And how better to publicly to do it by killing this chicken, in this case poor part time cleaner Vellama to keep in line the monkeys (Singapore citizens).

My letter to Wall Street Journal on Singapore's Defamation Laws

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This is in response to an article by Wall Street Journal titled Debate over blog limits intensifies over Singapore", March 1, 2012; Kenneth Jeyaretnam's response "Challenging Singapore's Defamation Laws" dated March 7, 2012 and Peer M Akbur, Press Secretary Singapore's Ministry of Information's response to Kenneth Jeyaretnam dated March 12, 2012.

I have sent it to the Editor Wall Street Journal today.

Singapore's Defamation laws

Dear Editor,

I refer to the letter from Peer M Akbur, Government of Singapore dated March 12, 2012titled "Defending Singapore's Defamation laws". It is an attempt by him to defend the indefensible by turning logic on it's head.

Firstly his attack on Kenneth Jeyaretnam's letter dated March 7, 2012 "Challenging Singapore ’s Defamation Laws" fails in that although Jeyaretnam Junior may have got the dates wrong, the substance of his argument remains accurate. His father was indeed hounded and repeatedly punished for statements he had made that were innocuous in any other free country in the world.

Akbur argues that because the editor of the Hammer and the Executive Council of the Workers Party had all agreed that JB Jeyaretnam’s (Jeyaretnam Senior) article was completely false and baseless and had apologized, therefore JB Jeyaretnam had indeed defamed the Singapore rulers. This is like trying to argue that the victim in whose country a bully has being going around giving everyone a black eye who criticized, has confessed to his crimes. What else did you expect the editor of the Hammer and the Executive Council of the Worker's Party to do?

He argues that Singapore holds it's public officials to the highest standards of probity because it has jailed ministers and officials. I am not sure whether this argument helps him since in other countries too, ministers have gone to jail.

Singapore court judgments in defamation cases brought by Singapore ’s political leaders, he says, are published and fully open to scrutiny. Surely publishing a judgment and opening it to scrutiny is not enough. It must also have some merit. I can tell you, that all these judgments are worthless. This is how Singapore it is done.

Suppose JB Jeyaretnam had merely said that Lee Kuan Yew should "allow more freedom of speech", the lawyers for the government would go around and find a totally unrelated defamation case in the books, where the Defendant had indeed defamed the Plaintiff, take out dicta in it which proscribes defamatory remarks, without making any reference to the facts, and argue that JB Jeyaretnam had indeed defamed.

If you actually took the trouble to research that other case, you would find that it is like comparing apples to oranges; no relevance at all to the case in point. With the use of judges who are handpicked to make judgments that Singapore 's political leaders want, it is easy for them to say anything in these written judgments.

Finally he says that the current Workers Party has won several seats in Parliament. Surely that should be no problem if they have decided not to criticize the government where it really matters, like Jeyartnam senior had done in the past. The present Workers Party, far from being a threat to the Lee Kuan Yew's PAP, indeed serves their purpose. Now they could say they are no longer a one party state, while at the same time, they can continue to rule without any opposition from anyone.

Akbur should realize that the readership of the Wall Street Journal is not as ignorant as he thinks. Singapore has successfully managed to tell the world what they really are, a one party Stalinist state.

Singapore, looking good with propaganda

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Underneath the veneer of shine and glitter of the state controlled propaganda, Singapore is struggling to keep going.

One thing the Singapore Lee ruling family will never give up is their state controlled press. Singapore Press Holdings, Media Corp and Channel News Asia control all newspapers in the island. All TV and radio broadcasting is also directly controlled. This enables them to paint as glorified a picture as they need for readers both locally and abroad.

On an almost daily basis, there are reports of the government increasing the handouts they give to the poor (there is no social welfare to speak of), of new streets being built, of assistance to the elderly and so on. But as quick as you have read of them, you never hear of them again, leaving you wondering whether in fact was that all true or just words to make the Lees look good.

For instance, you have heard periodical reports of campaigns to encourage childbirth, campaigns to be more polite, campaigns to speak more Mandarin. But after that we are never told whether any of this has worked. Have there been more babies, have people become more polite or have they flushed their toilets.

But the truth underneath the propaganda is not very encouraging, which you will never know in a city state which has the monopoly on the truth.

First, this sort of a society which is content merely to wait for the government to decide everything is a weak society, incapable of achieving greatness. After all slaves are not the best for creativity.

In Singapore the only civic participation among the people is limited to asking what the government has done for them. The only discussion you see is the complaints against the increase in prices of bus fares, taxi fares, overcrowding on trains or an escalation in utility costs.

Although they are tax payers, they don't seem to mind the Lee ruling family paying themselves and their friends millions of their dollars, no complaint at all about the law courts abusing the law to silence critics, none about their inability to even peacefully protest.

In fact it appears as if they have allowed the Lee ruling family a blanket license to make any laws and do anything they want with them, as long as the bus fares are not increased, utilities fares are not increased, taxes are not increased and crowding in trains are remedied.

One can only conclude that a Singaporean is a weird specimen of a human being. They speak English or a form of it, they go to discos like anyone in London would do, they drink in pubs and make merry just as anyone in Sydney would do and they even talk of football just as anyone else would do. But their similarity with their counterparts in the West ends there. They have a mortal fear to question Lee Kuan Yew's salary, or the lack of basic human rights under which they live.

The Lee ruling family have paid themselves millions through corruption (a salary of $3.7 million a year can only be called corruption and nothing else), totally denied the rights of their citizens under the Constitution but yet not a single human being has been willing to as much as squeak. In fact, as far as I can make out, there has not been a single protest against any of this for the last 40 years.

A people who are willing to live like this are clearly lacking desirable qualities. They are afraid of the Lee ruling family which prevents them from complaining. They know that anyone caught publicly agitating will not only be punished, but deprived of a livelihood and permanently hounded and harassed. Not wanting to suffer the same fate, they live their lives as they do, in half.

They outwardly pretend as if they are like anyone in London or Rome, but in fact the courage or independence you would expect of a Londoner or a Roman is cravenly suppressed. The weakness in the quality of Singaporeans works against the country's progress and they lose out in global competition.

Those who are aware of the weakness and lack of spirit, and unwilling to live in this boring and submissive life leave the island in massive numbers. This brain drain is a major problem which the government faces because it simply is unable to get enough people to enter the essential jobs that are being made vacant by this flood of emigration.

There are many Australians and others from the West who are willing to spend a stint or two working in Singapore, but unfortunately the Lee ruling family is wary of accepting them in any large numbers, since they may bring with them ideas of freedom and independence which the Lees do not want. People with independent minds may cause a threat to the Lee ruling family by demands of freedom and human rights as they are accustomed to in the West.

Their only safe course is to bring in immigrants from countries who themselves have been enslaved by their own dictators, such as Chinese from China, Burmese, Malaysians, Sri Lankans and Indians from India, as these people unlike Australians are unlikely to question the authority of the Lee family. Unfortunately for the Lees, although they are easier to subjugate and repress, they at the same time are far inferior in skills to those from the West whom they rather have. As a result these third rate individuals with only a fraction of the skills that someone from the West would have had, continues to hamper and stymie the progress of the island.

Singapore has the lowest birth rate in the world and a fast aging population. We have seen repeated pleas recently from the government to encourage greater childbirth to no avail. At the same time the large proportion of the population who are old are dying off, leaving them no choice but to continue bringing second rate poorly educated and poorly skilled foreigners from neighbouring countries to take their places.

In a recent newspaper report we were told that recent immigrants themselves are leaving, as many as 300 or so per year, giving up their passports and heading for home.

As long as the Lee ruling family are determined to remain in power, deny the human rights of their subjects, violate the rule of law and continue stealing millions of tax payers money, the people will leave, there won't be any children and people will die off.

Which is why in Singapore, beneath the propaganda of the state controlled press, it is not looking very good at all.

Singapore lawyers, an endangered species

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Singapore state controlled newspaper Straits Times March 7, 2012 online edition reports on the one perennial problem which simply refuses to go away, the unrelenting decline in the number of lawyers.

In fact 20 years ago there were more lawyers than there are now, which presently stands at 3,000 in an island state of 5 million! They are fast becoming an endangered species.

In this story "Committee to look into boosting lawyer supply", this newspaper states "the government will take a fresh look at the supply of lawyers here in a move that could see more Singaporeans and permanent residents qualify to practice law". Wait a minute. Haven't we heard this before? In fact we have heard this so many times but it simply never happens. Have they ever asked why?

The report: http://www.straitstimes.com/Parliament/Story/STIStory_774729.html

It says "the Minister will review the supply of Singapore lawyers to meet the legal and business needs of the country". It says "It's important that we get this right to ensure access to justice and our efforts to be a legal hub". And so on and so forth.

In fact for the last 20 years or so, the legal profession in Singapore has been slowly declining, not increasing, like you would have expected anywhere else. The problem in Singapore is too few lawyers, not too many like in most other places.

And we have heard these periodical repeated attempts by the Lee ruling family in Singapore to increase lawyer numbers without any success whatsoever. This latest report is simply a waste of newsprint.

With this latest in a series of attempts to increase lawyer numbers which simply refuses to budge, the question is why do they keep trying, when it simply does not happen.

If the government is determined to undermine the law as they are, turning it on it's head, repeatedly misusing it as a political tool to destroy the opposition, applying it in a preferential way for the elite and foreigners and a harsh way for locals, the law becomes discredited.

The legal profession in it's entirely is discredited. And Singapore lawyers as they are now are looked upon with disrespect, as unscrupulous men and women who misuse their profession for profit. And when you do this, nobody wants to be a lawyer. Unlike in other countries a Singapore lawyer does not walk with his head high, not a profession to be proud of.

Singapore style of law requires one to shut himself out of major areas of the law, such as human rights, Constitutional law, racial discrimination, the abuse of power by the rulers, the lack of due process in the legal system, and the corruption of the judiciary who are biased in favor of the government.

Singapore's Lee ruling family has made it very clear that their judges are allowed to abuse the law to destroy political opposition such as the case of JB Jeyaretnam and Chee Soon Juan has shown and no lawyer should question them. They can racially discriminate as much as they want. They can violate the Constitution as much as they want. They can deny anyone from speaking publicly. Or protesting publicly or any other activity that is acceptable anywhere else in the world but not so in Singapore. And no lawyer should question any of this and if they did, they would be harassed, punished and disbarred.

Singapore criminal trials have no jury; only a single judge decides guilt or innocence. So no matter how much justice and truth was on the side of a defendant, if the individual was a political opponent, he stands no chance regardless of the evidence. The judge is obligated not only to find him guilty but impose unimaginably harsh punishment on him.

Remember Tang Liang Hong, opposition politician in 1997 who had fled the country. All he did was stand outside the electoral constituency and wave a police report he had lodged against Lee Kuan Yew and company for having called him a Chinese chauvinist which he was not. For that the government came down on him like a ton of bricks. He was slapped with million dollar damage awards and his wife was not spared either.

I think in Singapore, the lawyers have learnt their lesson. The law in Singapore is not what we think it is. It is the Alice in Wonderland variety. Yes, you put on black robes and cart along a ton of books. But in reality, you are a half lawyer. Always keep your mind completely shut off about what the government does. Don't worry your Singaporean head about the lack of free speech. Don't worry about the lack of the right to peaceful protest. Neither do you worry about the Lee family making off with $3.7 million a year which they call a salary. Neither about the fact that Singapore has no free press. Or that Malays and Indians suffer state sanctioned racial discrimination. Or that their judges are corrupt and biased.

All you are allowed to do is to go through the motions of a lawyer. If your criminal client was tortured, don't mention it. If he was not allowed access to counsel, don't raise it. If the judge was biased, just keep quiet.

In other words if you are prepared to accept the fact that the Lee ruling family are free to do whatever they want to Singaporeans, I suppose you can survive as a lawyer. You can represent your client in contract cases. Represent him in a motor accident case. You can do a real property conveyancing case. And you can do any other case where you do not have to question the authority of the Lee Kuan Yew family and their minions.

No self respecting qualified individual would ever want to practice in such a disgraceful manner as demanded by Singapore's Lee ruling family. You may get a few half witted poorly educated men and women without any scruples into this sort of work, but not any decent human being within a mile of the Singaporean profession.

I suppose they can lower the qualifications in their desperation, which they now appear to be, to increase the numbers but in the end, it will have far reaching unintended consequences that will hurt in more ways than you can imagine.

Yes, the "Committee can look into boosting lawyer supply" but as to whether you are going to be successful is pretty dim. Why is it that the Lee ruling family does not appear to understand that if you discredit yourself, as you are now, no one is going to like you?

The only way they can boost lawyer numbers is to bring back the rule of law, which I suppose the Lee ruling family is not prepared to do. Well in that case, I can only say that you cannot have the cake and eat it as well.
